Being born in the heart of South Jamaica, Queens, the BackDaTruckUp hat is a tribute to the energy, grit, and genius of the legendary Queens rap group ONYX — a crew that shaped a sound, a culture, and a generation. Before they blew up, they were right in the hood — cutting hair, spitting raps, and inspiring kids like me from behind the chairs of the NU TRIBE barbershop on Jamaica Ave. I used to sit there, fresh out the chair, listening to future icons sharpen their skills like clippers on a fade.

Music was everything. For kids like me with no map, no manual, and no safe space to express our thoughts, ONYX gave us a voice. Their mad face logo? That was our mood — raw, real, and unapologetic. But even in the anger, there was power. There was purpose. And most of all, there was hope.

That’s what this hat represents.
